Pastoral Care Ordination

My name is Nico van Wyk. I am a student at the Christian Leaders Institute and am getting the Pastoral Care Ordination with the Christian Leaders Alliance.

My Journey

I grew up in a typical Christian household, where my parents nurtured my love for Christ and His work. However, as I ventured into the world, I prioritized everyday life’s demands over my calling to full-time ministry. Despite this, my love for Christ remained steadfast.

In 2016, my wife and I embarked on our first cross-cultural outreach. This experience reignited my passion and affirmed my calling to ministry. Over the next two years, I earnestly prayed and sought God’s direction. I knew that He wanted from me. In 2018, we decided to sell all our possessions and dedicate ourselves to missions.

Study at CLI for Ministry

I immersed myself in theological and missions studies during this period, beginning with programs at the Christian Leaders Institute (CLI) in January 2020. Following God’s leading, I engaged in various awards and ordinations, eager to equip myself for the journey ahead.

Our hearts are drawn to serving in rural areas, wherever God leads us. Our time in the villages of Malawi revealed a profound need for pastoral care, mentorship, and training among lay field pastors who lacked formal education. Thus, pastoral care and mentorship became our passion and a primary focus of our African ministry—to share God’s love and grace with everyone we encounter.

Pastoral Care Ordination

Completing my Pastoral Care Ordination means I can apply for my work visa in Malawi. We can then join our organization’s team. I can focus on what God has called and prepared me to do.

We will soon embark on our journey to start our ministry in the Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Central Malawi. Pastoral Care will be our main focus, working mainly with Refugees from DRC, Rwanda, and Burundi. The knowledge and skills obtained through my studies at CLI have equipped me for this work. This ordination will be the tool that opens the door.
