Licensed Wedding Officiant

My name is Gayle Quinn. I am a student at the Christian Leaders Institute to be a licensed wedding officiant.

My Journey

I grew up in a broken home—a rarity in my small Midwestern community. However, it was a blessing that almost every one of my grandparents, parents, aunts, uncles, and cousins was a Christian. I now attend an Assemblies of God church, but my childhood Baptist upbringing significantly influenced my spiritual life. Along with those constant reminders of “the wages of sin” came the never-ending exhortation to be a soul winner.

My paternal grandmother was not a Baptist, but she was the most influential person in my life. She taught me to sew and pluck a chicken. She also reviewed the weekly Sunday School lessons with me. Further, she cautioned me never to wear my best clothes to church on Easter. Visitors might not be comfortable if their clothing wasn’t as lovely as our homemade dresses. She counseled me to be brave like Daniel and David when given the choice of denying Christ or having my head chopped off in the future!

Even as a child, I was sensitive to the needs of those less fortunate and those who didn’t know Christ as their Savior. That awareness drove me to find ways to reach others with the Gospel message. The year I began my career as an elementary teacher, bringing children to church became an essential part of my life. So, since 1968, I have usually been leading a Bible club or a bus ministry. Once in the ’70s, when no bus was available, I brought 12 kids to church in my Volkswagen Fastback (not recommended).

Serving Christ: Licensed Wedding Officiant with CLA

My husband Gary and I are volunteer facilitators of JC Kids, a bus ministry to neighborhood children in Lafayette, Indiana. It’s our 19th year in this program. Along with dozens of other volunteers, we have taught hundreds of children the fundamentals of our Christian faith. We have aspired to implant in them the truths of the great Bible stories.

Recently, when our granddaughter asked me to perform her wedding, I began researching ways to become licensed as a wedding officiant. Not wanting to have my name attached to an organization that did not adhere to my spiritual beliefs, it was a joy to find the Christian Leaders Institute. Their credentials, extensive list of programs, and the quality of their training have impressed me. I plan to take advantage of more CLI training.

I am so thankful that this opportunity is available without cost to me and others who want to be more effective in serving Christ and serving others. It is also a blessing to join the Christian Leaders Alliance.
