Prison Minister

My name is Lorenzo Lewis, I have a passion for being a prison minister. I was born in Flint Michigan in 1965 to Henry and Laura Lewis. I was a very happy and adventurous child, with a big imagination! I am the youngest of three siblings, with two older sisters. I always wanted people to be happy and feel good. Even as a child, I had the gift of influence, people young and old would listen to what I had to say. I felt the calling of God in my life at a young age, but I was afraid and didn’t understand what it all meant. I didn’t have that church influence in the home. Both my parents worked for the General Motors auto plant in Flint which afforded our family a very comfortable lifestyle.

As I started college away from home, I wanted to continue on with the lifestyle I’d come to enjoy. I wanted the comforts without the sacrifices that it took my parents. As I started down the road of petty crime, I found myself behind bars. After a couple of arrests, I realized that God had a plan for my life and I gave my life to him in my jail cell. While I was in the prison, there were groups from different churches that came to have services and minister to us. I prayed to the Lord to allow me to one day come back to the prisons as a prison minister and do for others what these wonderful people did for me.

After over 20 years of being born again, I am now married to my beautiful wife of 5 years and together we have a wonderful blended family of 6 children with 7 grandchildren. The prayer I prayed those 20 years ago has now come to pass. Besides serving in several ministries in my local church alongside my beautiful wife, I now not only lead a team of men the 1st Friday of the month at a Men’s Transitional Center and also teach every week at the Main State prison. I’m blessed and privileged to do so at the SAME prison I was incarcerated 20 years ago!!

I will use my Deacon Ministry training and ordination with Christian Leaders Alliance to further develop my understanding of the scriptures as it pertains to my walk with God and my continued serving and ministering to the lost as well as raising up new leaders in the faith. I will pursue my officiant certification to perform weddings, funerals, and baptisms. I broadcast audio Spiritual Inspirational messages over the internet twice a week. I recently received my Reentry and Minister of the Gospel ordination from my local church. Being trained at Christian Leaders Institute is the answer to my prayers because I am one that can’t afford the cost of conventional Bible College. The scholarship with CLI would help me with my ministry goals by providing me with the necessary credibility needed to take advantage of the opportunities that God puts before me.
