Ordained Minister Call

My name is Brody Goodson and I have an ordained minister call on my life. I live in Montgomery, Texas and I am 34 years old. I have been married to my beautiful wife, Michel, for 4 years. Our Lord has blessed us with 3 wonderful children, Jack who is 8 years old, Miriam who is 2 years old and our newest addition, Eleanor who is 3 months old. I have been in the medical field for 17 years specializing in Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine.

My journey with Christ started in 2009 when I felt God calling me to attend a local church. That journey became solidified on March 21, 2015, while attending a couple’s retreat hosted by another local church that one of my close friends attends. It was at that retreat that I heard a question that forever changed my life. That question was, “When was the last time you were intimate with God?” That was the first time that I ever heard that question in my life. It forever changed my life. I never even knew that there was a possibility to have a personal, intimate relationship with God. I didn’t know how to start a personal relationship with God. When I asked the person who asked that question what he meant by having an intimate relationship with God, he looked me in the eyes, put his hand on my right shoulder, and told me that I needed to pray to God and ask Him.

So later that night, I did exactly that. I prayed like I had never prayed before. I threw my hands up in the air and surrendered to my Lord and Savior. I cried and begged Him to please tell me what I needed to do to be in an intimate relationship with Him. I told God that I would do anything if he would just tell me how I could achieve this intimate relationship with Him. That moment led to the first time in my life that I heard God speak to me. I woke up the next day, which was a Sunday morning. After breakfast, we went to have Sunday morning service outside next to the lake. It was a beautiful sunny morning. My wife and I sat in the first row of seats eager to hear the scripture. Now, this is where I heard my Father answer my prayer from the night before. Our Sermon that morning was from Psalm 23. I had gone through life thinking and believing that I was in control of everything including my own destiny. Until I read those Bible verses that day, I had not realized that my controlling ways were making my life way harder than it needed to be. I was totally unhappy with my life. I felt like I was stuck in a hole with no way out. It was in those Bible verses that I not only heard God instructing me on what I needed to do to develop my intimate relationship with Him, I felt Him. I can’t tell you how many times I have read those verses in my life and not once did I fully understand what they meant until that Sunday morning.

It was also at that moment, that I first began to hear God call me into ministry. I believe that God chose that day to come into my life. In realizing that, I believe that He is giving me an opportunity to help bring others to Him and to help people have an intimate relationship with their Father in Heaven. We all need our Shepherd, without Him we are lost. My calling is to serve God in any way He leads me. I have learned that He has been training me my entire life. I have experienced hardships in life just like many other people in this world. I have had the joy of learning how to care for people, as my 17-year career in the medical field has helped prepare me for whatever it is God wants me to do.

My hope and prayer are that studying at Christian Leaders Institute will help me start the next phase of this journey with God. I feel in my heart that this is the path my Father has chosen for me. I look forward to growing even further in my intimate relationship with my Father in Heaven. Learning the knowledge and skills from CLI will help me answer that ordained minister call from God. Thank You for this opportunity, CLI!

Now that I have completed my Deacon Minister Ordination class, I must say, this has been an amazing ordained minister call journey. I feel the personal and spiritual growth that I have gained from this Deacon Minister class. This ordination is monumental for me as this helps me pursue the true calling I feel Christ is leading me to. I completed this class because I felt that this class would help prepare me for the Bachelor in Divinity Degree program with CLI. I feel in my heart that God has BIG plans for me and this Ordination brings me closer to His Plan.

My becoming a Deacon Minister with Christian Leaders Alliance is part of my ordained minister call as a Disciple of God. God charges all of us to go out and bring His children back home to Him. It is the proper stepping stone in the journey to becoming the Pastor of His Church. You can’t just step into the Church Pastor role and serve God’s purpose for you if you don’t undergo the proper training and field experience. How can one lead a congregation if one does not have the experience and knowledge of how to lead from the beginning of their training? That’s where the Deacon Minister role comes in. It gives you the foundation of knowledge that continues to grow inside of you and helps you in the field by gaining the experience as a Christian Leader. I am truly excited to complete this Deacon Minister Ordination class as it allows me to go out into the field and gain the experience I need to fulfill my Holy Father’s calling for me. All I have to say now is, Bachelor of Divinity Degree Program here I come! Thank you, CLI, for everything. Glory be to God!
