Called to Minister

My name is Jerry Pierce, and I am called to minister. I am 59 years old. I’ve been married to Tammy for 38 years. I have three children: Jeremy, Travis, and Brittany. Also, I have three grandchildren, Katlyn, Skylar, and Jaiden. I live in Little River, South Carolina.

My Life Before I Believed

I was born in Uniontown, Pennsylvania, which is around 60 miles southeast of Pittsburgh. Tammy and I married on November 21, 1981, at Whyel Chapel at the Jumonville Christian Camp and Retreat Center. Jeremy was born on March 29,1982, in Uniontown, PA. In 1983, I joined the United States Air Force and served for six years. I spent time in Plattsburgh, N.Y., and then, Osan Air Base in Korea. Next, we moved to Fort Meade, Maryland. There, our second son Travis was born on March 7, 1988, at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, DC.

When I got out of the Air Force, we settled at home in a small town called Connellsville, PA. Later, we moved to Scottdale, PA. My daughter was born on December 27, 1990, in Mt. Pleasant, PA. In 1996, I got trained and worked for the Fayette County 911 in Uniontown, Pa.

One day, I was cutting our grass and shut the mower off. This voice was in my mind saying I was going to be a minister. I instantly said, “No, I’m not.” Then, I never thought of it again. However, one day in April of 2002, I went into work, and basically, I couldn’t speak. So, I went to the hospital and was admitted. My health just got worse. I couldn’t walk, and the doctors had no clue what was wrong.

How God Changed My Life

In May of 2002, I remember going into my workplace in a wheelchair and handing in my resignation letter. Well, this lasted for 13 years. One day, I told my wife I was tired of this sickness. She told me that I needed to believe in God. But I didn’t believe it. So, I sat there, and we talked. I told her I wanted to have faith with tears in my eyes. But, I had so much hate and anger that I didn’t know how to love. Finally, I asked God for all these evil things to leave me. At that moment, I felt my heart changing. I never felt anything like it, so much love was what I felt. God was real!

After that, things began to look up. The Holy Spirit led us to move to South Carolina. We did. In 2012, I got ordained with the Christian Leaders Alliance and was taking my classes at the Christian Leaders Institute. I recently earned my Commissioned Pastor Diploma. Now I am following the calling of the Lord on my life. God is Good!
