What is an Officiant? the Officiant Credential with Christian Leaders Institute

“Unless Yahweh builds the house, they who build it labor in vain.” — Psalm 127:1a (WEB)

The word officiant often brings to mind weddings or formal ceremonies. But biblically and spiritually, the role of an officiant carries a much deeper meaning. Through the Christian Leaders Institute (CLI) and the Christian Leaders Alliance (CLA), those called into ministry can pursue an officiant credential rooted in biblical foundations and real ministry impact.

What Does It Mean to Be an Officiant?

An officiant is someone who is spiritually recognized and/or legally authorized to lead religious ceremonies—such as weddings, funerals, baptisms, and other sacred rites. In Scripture, officiants included priests, prophets, kings, judges, and elders—each chosen by God to guide His people through life’s most significant moments.

Biblical Foundations of the Officiant Role

Officiants in the Old Testament:

Priests: Offered sacrifices, taught the law, and blessed the people.

Prophets: Delivered God’s Word and anointed leaders.

Kings: Led spiritually and politically, often guiding national worship.

Judges and Elders: Resolved disputes, led communities, and officiated civic and spiritual matters.

Officiants in the New Testament:

Jesus Christ: Our Great High Priest who officiated the New Covenant.

Apostles: Led the early church, preached, baptized, and taught.

Church Leaders: Pastors, elders, and deacons officiated worship, sacraments, and care ministries.

“You are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession…” — 1 Peter 2:9 (WEB)

Today, the priesthood of all believers empowers faithful Christians to serve in officiant roles under godly guidance and biblical training.

Kevin Officiant

Feature Story: Kevin Klansky’s Officiant Journey

When Kevin Klansky, age 62, was asked by close friends to officiate their wedding, he was both honored and humbled. “I thought, ‘I’m not a minister… I’m not sure I can do that.’ But through prayer and careful consideration, I felt a calling to say yes.”

Kevin took the calling seriously. Although he had never officiated a wedding before, he knew he wanted to be properly trained and spiritually prepared. He searched for a Christian organization that could offer both credibility and training—not just a generic online certificate.

“I didn’t want a generic, off-the-street certification. I was thrilled to find Christian Leaders Institute and Christian Leaders Alliance.”

Through the Christian Wedding Officiant course at CLI, Kevin gained the knowledge and confidence to lead a Christ-centered wedding ceremony.

“This course gave me the skill set to prepare for and conduct all aspects of a Christian wedding—not only for our friends, but maybe others in the future as well.”

Kevin’s story is a beautiful example of how the officiant credential empowers ordinary believers to respond to God’s extraordinary call. With the right training and biblical grounding, anyone called can confidently serve their community and honor God through ministry.
