Amy Mohel: Finding Christian Ordination and a Renewed Faith

What began with a request to officiate her cousin’s wedding became another chapter in Amy Mohel’s journey of faith, Christian ministry, and answering God’s call to serve.

An Unexpected Opportunity

When Her Cousin Asked Her to Officiate

Amy’s search for Christian ordination began when her cousin asked her to officiate a wedding. She had never expected to find herself in that role and initially did not know how to pursue meaningful ministry recognition.

She knew, however, that she wanted something more substantial than simply completing a quick online application.

“I knew I didn’t want to be ordained through an online application, commonly referred to as an ‘ordination mill.’ I wanted something meaningful, aligned with Christian values.”

Marriage and Ministry

Wanting to Honor God Through the Wedding Ceremony

Amy’s convictions about marriage were an important part of her search. She wanted her role in the ceremony to reflect her Christian faith and her understanding of marriage as a covenant before God.

“I believe that marriage is a covenant between God, a man, and a woman. I wanted to ensure I was partaking in something that would honor God.”

That search led Amy to Christian Leaders Institute and Christian Leaders Alliance.

A Meaningful Ministry Pathway

Discovering Christian Leaders Institute and Alliance

Christian Leaders offered Amy the kind of study-based, Christian ministry pathway she had been searching for. Wedding officiant recognition gave her a way to prepare for her cousin’s ceremony while continuing to explore a broader ministry calling.

A Ceremony She Never Forgot

The Three-Cord Ceremony That Shaped Her View of Marriage

In 2011, Amy married her childhood crush. A family friend who was a pastor officiated their wedding, and one element of the ceremony left a lasting impression on her.

During the ceremony, Pastor Bob brought out three cords and invited the couple to braid them together while explaining the biblical picture of unity found in Ecclesiastes 4:12.

Amy remembers the moment as beautiful and meaningful—an example of how a Christian wedding ceremony can communicate spiritual truth in a memorable way.

Her Spiritual Journey

Searching for a Genuine Relationship with God

Amy was raised Catholic but says she did not yet understand the gospel or experience the kind of personal relationship with God she later came to know. She eventually began exploring non-denominational churches and slowly came to understand faith as more than religious tradition.

While living in Colorado, Amy found a gospel-teaching church, committed herself to growing spiritually, and was baptized.

Losing Her Way

A Season of Searching and Spiritual Struggle

Shortly after her baptism, Amy and her husband moved back to Texas. Without a church home, she again found herself searching for spiritual community.

After the birth of their daughter in 2014, Amy wanted a church community in which to raise her family, but she struggled to find the right place. During that season, she explored spiritual practices outside Christianity.

By 2018, following the death of her grandmother, Amy describes herself as feeling lost, angry, disconnected, and hopeless. She considered herself spiritual but recognized later that she had moved away from the Christian faith she needed.

A Turning Point

Finding Her Way Back to Christ

A rekindled friendship eventually led Amy to attend a women’s Bible conference. The speaker’s message affected her deeply, and Amy felt compelled to meet her.

That meeting developed into a discipleship relationship. In February 2019, Amy committed herself to what became her church home, The Fellowship.

Amy enrolled in and graduated from a 31-week ministry course offered through her church. The program included theological study of the Bible, Christianity, and the church.

Students attended weekly classes, completed extensive reading, wrote papers, took written and oral examinations, and even prepared and delivered a sermon.

Amy says her life has never been the same.

Faith Put Into Practice

Serving Wherever God Opens a Door

Amy also helped open a newly adopted church campus in her hometown. That location holds special significance because her grandfather served there as worship pastor until his passing in 1998. Amy now serves as the café ministry lead at that campus.

Continuing Toward Ordained Christian Ministry

Amy continues looking ahead to the ways God may use her, challenge her, and transform her through ministry. Pursuing Licensed Christian Ordained Minister recognition represents another opportunity to prepare for service and share the light of Christ with others.
