Feature Story: From the Prodigal Path to Licensed Ministry Officiant – Kim Powell’s Journey

Kim Powell, a wife and mother of three from Santa Rosa Beach, Florida, is currently studying at Christian Leaders Institute to become a Licensed Ministry Officiant. With deep family roots in Southern Pentecostal ministry and a strong biblical upbringing in Birmingham, Alabama, Kim’s early life was immersed in Scripture and prayer. But like many, she experienced a prodigal season that took her far from the faith she once knew.

“I started to feel the draw of the world in my mid-teens,” Kim shares. “I began questioning who I was, who I was in Christ, and the call to godly service that had been spoken over my life since before I was born.”Licensed Ministry Officiant

Her story took a winding path filled with rebellion, spiritual struggle, and a relentless tug-of-war between the call of Christ and the allure of sin. Despite wandering far from God, Kim says the prayers of her faithful parents and church family “stood in the gap” for her, carrying her through dark years of deception, addiction, and heartbreak.

After surviving multiple life-altering events—including a tour on the road with musicians, addiction recovery, and a devastating car accident—Kim found herself back in church on Easter Sunday 1995. “I can’t exactly explain what happened,” she recalls, “but when the congregation started to sing, ‘At the cross, at the cross, where I first saw the light…’ I became an emotional hemophiliac. Years of pain rushed to the surface. I repented, and the Holy Spirit washed over me.”

From that moment, her life began to transform. She embraced her true identity in Christ and left behind the chaos of her former life. Now, after 26 years of walking in redemption, Kim is pursuing the Licensed Ministry Officiant credential through Christian Leaders Institute to continue her calling to serve others.

“My calling is clear,” she affirms. “It has always been to serve the Lord and be a living testimony of redemption. I want to help others find their way to Christ and embrace their gift of redemption.”

Through CLI’s free ministry training, Kim is gaining the skills and confidence to serve wherever God leads. “Becoming a Licensed Ministry Officiant with Christian Leaders Alliance is bringing me closer to that goal.”
