G. Douglas Goodson: Building a Foundation for Lifelong Christian Ministry
After years of serving others and pursuing ministry opportunities, G. Douglas Goodson realized that calling alone was not enough. He wanted deeper biblical education, meaningful ministry recognition, and preparation for a long-term vision of building Christian community.

Building a Life With His Wife, Teri
Douglas lives in Massachusetts with his wife, Teri. At the time of his original testimony, they had been married for 27 years and had four adult children—two sons and two daughters—as well as three grandchildren.
Douglas and Teri had also spent approximately 15 years involved in transitional ministry while operating a family business for more than two decades.
Family, faith, work, and ministry all became part of a journey that eventually led Douglas toward deeper Christian leadership and ministry preparation.
A Calling That Developed Over Time
Wrestling With Ministry, Family, and Calling
Douglas’s interest in serving Jesus Christ began when he was young. Growing up Catholic, he struggled to imagine ministry fitting alongside the future family life he hoped to have.
For a season, he set thoughts of formal ministry aside and concentrated on building a family. Yet the desire to serve God remained. In his twenties, Douglas began wondering whether evangelism might be part of his calling.
Calling Needed Preparation
Discovering That a Credential Was Not Enough
After several turns in his journey, Douglas pursued ordination through an online church and began his ministry in his early thirties.
It did not take long for him to recognize something was missing. His ordination had included very little educational preparation, and Douglas began reading extensively about pastoral counseling in an effort to equip himself.
Even after studying independently, he still felt inadequately prepared for the needs he encountered in ministry.
Seeing a Deeper Ministry Need
More Than Weddings and Funerals
As Douglas encountered more people through ministry, he became increasingly convinced that many needed something deeper than occasional spiritual contact.
Douglas saw a need for people to experience spiritual community and an ongoing relationship with God—not simply encounter ministry at a wedding or funeral.
Education That Changed His Ministry
Finding Accessible, Study-Based Ministry Preparation
Douglas eventually discovered Christian Leaders Institute and found the ministry education he had been looking for.
He appreciated being able to receive substantial Christian education at an accessible cost and believed the educational prerequisite connected with ministry recognition made an important difference.

Growing Through Ministry Recognition
Building on His Deacon and Officiant Preparation
Douglas was ordained as a Deacon Minister in a ceremony led by a close friend and mentor and attended by friends and family. He remembered the experience as an important beginning in a new chapter of ministry.
He later received Officiant Ordination through Christian Leaders Alliance while continuing his education through Christian Leaders Institute.
Douglas planned to use both areas of ministry preparation as part of his transitional ministry and his larger vision for serving his local community.
Putting Education Into Practice
Continuing to Learn While Leading Others
While continuing his education, Douglas led an in-home Bible study and put his developing ministry skills into practice.
He credited Christian Leaders education with helping him feel more competent and equipped to minister to the people around him.
His Long-Term Ministry Vision
Building a Network of Bible-Based House Churches
Douglas’s greatest ministry aspiration was to build a network of Bible-based house churches where Christians could gather as a spiritual family.
His vision centered on creating communities where people could support one another while growing in their understanding of Jesus Christ and His teachings.
A Lifelong Student of Ministry
Looking Toward Further Study and Ministry Growth
Douglas did not view one credential or one course as the finish line. He continued working toward additional ministry preparation and had already completed much of the coursework connected with House Church Minister recognition.
His longer-term educational goals included degree studies, graduate-level education, and eventually pursuing Commissioned Minister recognition as his ministry continued to develop.
Calling Strengthened by Preparation
Combining Ministry Calling With Biblical Education
G. Douglas Goodson’s Christian ministry story reflects a calling that developed across decades of family life, work, transitional ministry, independent study, and Christian service.
His experience taught him that meaningful ministry recognition becomes stronger when it is connected with study, preparation, accountability, and an ongoing commitment to learning.
